Hello — welcome.

Flip the lights
off on AI.

A friendly guide to Llamafiles — open-source AI models packaged as a single file that runs on your laptop, offline. Tell us what you'd like to do, and we'll suggest the smallest one that still does the job — no subscription, no data centre, no tracking. When you're done, simply switch it off.

What we believe

01

Private by default

Your conversations stay on your computer. Always.

02

Gentle on the planet

Smaller models sip energy. We help you pick one that's just right.

03

Works offline

On a plane, on a train, in a cabin — it keeps working.

04

Yours to keep

Open-source models, no monthly fees, no lock-in.

Why small

The biggest cloud models burn enormous amounts of energy and send your data to someone else's servers. For most everyday tasks — writing, summarising, brainstorming — a small model on your laptop is faster, more private, and uses a fraction of the resources. That's a quietly radical idea, and we like it.

Our default → the smallest model that still does the job.

Local thinking

Once your model is running, it can plug into the apps you already use — Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Inkscape. Private, offline, instant; no cloud round-trip, no telemetry, no waiting.

Offline edition

A small irony: this guide to offline AI currently lives on the web, so David created a fully offline edition you can open without a connection. It packages the same recommendations, setup steps, and workflow guides as a portable artefact you can keep on a USB stick, share with a friend, or open on a plane.
